Andres Escobar, regarded as one of New York’s most prolific and influential interior designers specializing in luxury residential and hotel development in New York City, will be the latest subject of Michael Stoler’s acclaimed profile series Building New York: New York Stories. In addition, he describes some of his newest projects, of which 15 are currently under development in New York City.
It was a wonderful surprise to be invited on the show,” says Mr. Escobar. “Several of my clients have been profiled and I’ve always admired Michael’s skill as an interviewer. Now I know firsthand how skilled he is at making his guests feel at ease!”
Having made his mark in New York for nearly 20 years with distinct and daring design, Mr. Escobar joins a pantheon of prominent personalities on the show who have made their own impact on real estate, theatre, government, hospitality and healthcare in the city. Over the years, Building New York: New York Stories has profiled many of the people who have literally shaped the city, such as Larry Silverstein, Stephen Ross and Steven Witkoff, as well as revered restaurateurs and chefs such as Danny Meyer, Drew Nieporent and Eric Ripert; Broadway and television celebrities like Richard Kind; supermarket mogul and mayoral candidate John Catsimatidis; and former NYFD Commissioner Thomas Van Essen, among others.
Putting his own imprimatur on the New York landscape, Mr. Escobar is working on or finishing nine residential projects, including Queens Plaza Park, slated to be the tallest residential tower in Queens and 532 Neptune Avenue, 222 East 44th Street and 56 Fulton Street, 505 West 43rd Street, 237 East 34th Street, Five Franklin Place, 300 Schermerhorn and 357 East 17thStreet; and one in Hoboken, NJ.
In addition, he has recently designed five new hotels.
Mr. Escobar’s project roster in New York also includes the redesign and renovation of two Upper East Side, mid-century apartment buildings owned by the Chetrit Group and Stellar Management and containing more than 800 units. He is additionally working on two circa 2001 luxury rental buildings in Midtown, respectively owned by The Torkian Group and Gaia Real Estate.
Since merging with Montreal-based architecture and design firm Lemay in December 2015, Mr. Escobar has been expanding his own interior design practice. As Partner, Design Principal and Creative Director of Escobar Design by Lemay, he now has access to an award-winning group of architects, planners, landscape architects, designers, and engineers for future projects.
